Here are excerpts for you from my interview with an author who I predict will become a big name in international literature: Vikram Sampath.ġ Tell us a little bit about yourself. ![]() This engineer and MBA from the SP Jain Institute of Management, Mumbai is an articulate speaker and speaks as convincingly as he writes. Vikram’s interests, as you will soon see for yourself, are far ranging. The fact that he knew my son-in-law, Subhash, also a BITS, Pilani alum helped too. I knew he studied in that centre of academic and all-round excellence, BITS Pilani, which I used to visit regularly for recruitment in my Wipro days. I first got to know Vikram when he and I were invited by the book lovers club, iBrowse to speak of our books. “Love is the longing for the half of ourselves we have lost. There aren’t too many, especially in today’s fast-paced “dog eat dog” kind of world, who make time to fulfill their passions. “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.” “It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” “ We do not remember days, we remember moments.” “The more you lose, the more you realize you don't have much left.” “How Fast does a man run, when the devil is after him?” “Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.” “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.” "The only lies for which we are truly punished are those we tell ourselves." " It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like, so long as somebody loves you." " It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane." " We need never be ashamed of our tears." " No one forgets the truth they just get better at lying." " Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing." " You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget." Wait for the common sense of the morning.” “ It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. It gave us more freedom. We lived in the gaps between the stories." We lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. " We were the people who were not in the papers. " Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other." “ Perhaps bravery is simply the face humanity wraps around its collective madness.” “ One must be careful of books, and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.” Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone “ It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” “ I would always rather be happy than dignified.” “Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it yet.” ![]() “ You don’t have to live Forever, you just have to Live.” “There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.” Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Love in the Time of Cholera “She was lost in her longing to understand.” “The pieces I am, she gather them and gave them back to me in all the right order.” “Once upon a time there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.” Wallace Stegner, All the little Live Things “ There is a sense in which we are all each other’s consequences” Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of being a Wallflower “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.” “And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” Salvador Plascencia, The People of Paper ![]() “What do you call them, the spaces between seconds? I think of you always in those moments.” Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close “Sometimes I can feel my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I’m not living.” Whether we have read the book doesn’t matter, what matters is how these quotes, when comprehended, make an impact in our lives. In this compilation are quotes I have read from the book itself or found on the internet. Books are filled with thousands of words but some, when stringed together, form the most moving sentences.
